SOUND DESIGN / ORIGINAL MUSICThe job was to make the world beneath our feet feel immediate, curious and alive.
You've Got Worms was made for BBC Radio 4's Illuminated strand and first broadcast in June 2025. Science writer Jack Monaghan guides the listener through gardens, farms, factories and laboratories, looking at worms not as background creatures but as an essential and surprisingly intimate part of the world around us.
Robert's role covered the sound design and original music. The production needed clarity around scientific ideas while still feeling playful, textured and cinematic enough for the listener to experience the subject rather than simply receive information about it.
The sound world therefore works as part of the storytelling architecture: underscore, texture, transitions and close sonic detail help move between locations and ideas, keep the pace alive and give the documentary its own identity without crowding the narration.
The completed programme was produced and narrated by Jack Monaghan, with Bridget Harney as executive producer, and was made by PRONK! Productions for BBC Radio 4.
